Ioannis Zalachoras joined the Wyss Center in December 2022 as Research Project Manager to work on projects studying the role of astrocytes in health and disease. Ioannis brings experience in preclinical models of psychiatric disorders and neurological diseases.
Ioannis Zalachoras holds a BSc in Biology from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Greece) and a MSc from the Radboud University Nijmegen (the Netherlands). Ioannis received his PhD in 2014 from the Leiden University Medical Center (the Netherlands), where he studied the modulation of Glucocorticoid Receptor signalling as a potential therapeutic manipulation to alleviate stress effects in the brain.
Following his PhD, Ioannis did Postdoctoral work at EPFL (Switzerland), where he studied how anxiety and stress regulate motivated behaviour, and at the University of Lausanne (Switzerland) in the group of Andrea Volterra, where he studied the involvement of astrocytes in CNS pathologies.
