Professor Anthony Holtmaat is a full professor at the University of Geneva where he leads a research team in the Department of Basic Neurosciences at the faculty of medicine, and co-directs the Lemanic Neuroscience Doctoral School. Prior to his appointment at UNIGE he trained as molecular neuroscientist at the Netherlands Institute for Brain Research and then further specialized in optical imaging techniques in the lab of Karel Svoboda at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratories in the USA.

His research largely focuses on synaptic mechanisms of brain circuit plasticity, utilizing the latest tools and methods in opto-physiology. His work has provided an experimental and computational framework for studies of experience-dependent and learning-related synaptic plasticity.

He has received several honorary awards, among which the Swiss Brain League prize, and holds the Chair Alain Rossier supported by the International Foundation for Research in Paraplegia.
